MORGEO'20

Morgeo is an international conference on geospatial technologies and applications. It’s organized by the Geomatics Science Research Team ‘SGEO’ of Hassania School of Public Works in collaboration with the Moroccan Association of Geomatics (AMAGEO). The 2nd edition, Morgeo’20, will offer an extensive program of interest on Geo-Intelligence that couple between artificial intelligence and geospatial technologies. This event provides an opportunity for all to network, share ideas and present researches to a worldwide community. The aim of Morgeo’20 is to bring together practitioners and researchers from academia, industry and government to exchange information and share experiences and research results about all aspects of specialized and interdisciplinary fields. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Abderrazak Bannari

Professor of remote sensing and GIS, Head of Geoinformatics Department, Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain

Prof. Abderrazak Bannari, is a Canadian / Moroccan scientist, acting as a Chair of the Department of Geoinformatics at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), Kingdom of Bahrain. Before joining the AGU, he was professor of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Environmental Studies at the University of Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) during 20 years. Before this, he taught in Space-Sciences Engineering Department at the Polytechnic of Montreal (Québec), the Applied Geomatics Department at Sherbrook University and the Geomatics Sciences Department at Laval University (Quebec). As well, Prof. Bannari worked for SPAR Aerospace Limited industry (Montreal) in the field of small satellites optical sensors design and conceptualization. He worked at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA in Pasadena, California. Between 2000 and 2010 he was involved, with his graduate students, in the Canadian Hyperspectral program managed by the Canadian Space Agency and the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing for the HERO (Hyperspectral Environment and Resource Observer) mission design. Between 2000 and 2012, he was the Director of Geomatics Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa. He was invited-professor by various international institutions. Professor Bannari supervised more than 58 theses (Postdoc, PhD, Master’s, etc.). He is the author and co-author of more than 210 scientific works (book, book chapters, publications, etc.). His scientific contributions have been cited and used in 85 books of information technology worldwide, and he has received different Canadian and international scientific innovation awards.


Vahid Moosav

Senior researcher & Lecturer, Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), ETH Zurich, Suisse

Previously trained and practiced as a systems engineer, over the last 9 years he has been focused on machine learning techniques and their applications in the context of urban and spatial modeling.
From 2011 to 2015 he did the PhD research at the chair for Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) at ETH Zurich.
At the same time, from November 2011 till end of April 2015 he was a researcher at Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) of Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC). From May 2015 he is a senior researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), ETH Zurich.
Parallel to research and teaching “Data Driven Modeling” to graduate architectural design students at ETH, he has been conducting several applied machine-learning projects both at academia and industry and startups.

Youness Dehbi

Senior researcher & lecturer, Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation, University of Bonn, Germany

Dr. Youness Dehbi studied computer science and communication research at the University of Bonn in Germany. After graduating in 2008 he started his career as a research assistant in the Geoinformation group at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation at the same university, where he is still teaching and researching in the field of machine learning for 3D city models. After his PhD he is currently responsible for the Urban Reasoning and Analytics field as Senior Researcher. He is interested in his research in both the efficient semantic interpretation of urban environments from dense observations and the probabilistic estimation of 3D city models from sparse noisy data. He published a range of scientific contributions including awarded papers, is acting as a reviewer for several research journals and a member of various scientific committees.


Karim Beddiar

Head of R&I CESI West, Head of "City of the future" and "BIM" activities CESI group, France

Dr. Karim BEDDIAR is an engineer and PhD from Ecole des Ponts ParisTech ( http://www.enpc.fr/ ). He begins his career at Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées (now IFSTTAR https://www.ifsttar.fr/accueil/ ) Ecole normale supérieure (Cachan, France). He joined CESI in 2004 where he occupied several responsibilities: teacher, researcher, and head of department… Currently he is head of the research and innovation of CESI West and in charge of the « BIM » and « City of the future » teaching and research activities of the CESI group. He also holds the « City of the future & Circular economy » chair founded by CESI and ESSOR group. His main research interests focuses on smart building and energy optimization; BIM/BLM in construction. He published a range of technical and scientific articles. Jean-Philippe Morisseaur

Chief Operating Officer of GEOIDE & a part-time lecturer at ENSG, France

Dr. Jean-Philippe Morisseau is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of GEOIDE Crypto&Com, a company specialized in cybersecurity and smart cities solutions. Former Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) analyst in the French Air Force, he had the opportunity to lead projects about GEOINT operational development. He is also part-time lecturer at the National School of Geographic Sciences (ENSG) and support geospatial companies on foresight and strategy topic for service development. His research interest focuses on Geospatial Intelligence. he published a series of scientific articles “Le potentiel de l’IA pour le Renseignement, DSI Hors-Série Déc 2018“, “GEOINT on the March: A French Perspective, 2018 State & Future of GEOINT Report USGIF (coauteur)”, ”Les défis du GEOINT Français, DSI jan-fev 2018”, and “La cartographie au profit de la sûreté internationale, Sécurité & Stratégie juin-sep 2014 »… He is also the author of a blog and articles devoted to GEOINT discipline: https://geointblog.wordpress.com/


Hassane Jarar Oulidi

Professor of geoinformatics at EHTP, Expert in Geospatial Technologies, Morocco

Prof. Hassane Jarar Oulidi is professor of geoinformatics in the Department of Mathematics, informatics and geomatics at Hassania School for Public Works Engineering (EHTP). From 2006 and 2009, he had been a research scientist at German Research Center for Geosciences. His current research activities focus on the design, development of geospatial data infrastructure for groundwater resources management. His other research interests include geospatial sensor web, OGC standards and interoperability. He was established elearning program course for GIS and remote sensing in Morocco. He has led and participated in many research projects and has authored and co-authored numerous academic chapter’s books and articles. He was member of the program committee of several conferences in the area of geomatics and geospatial technology. He works with many companies to help them manage and implement GIS project.


Rafika Hajji

Associate professor at IAV Institut, Morocco

Prof. Rafika HAJJI is an Associate Professor at IAV Hassan II Institute, Rabat, Morocco. She received a PhD (2013) in Sciences at University of Liege in Belgium. In 2004, she received a degree of Surveying Engineer from IAV Hassan II Institute. She is actually the head of Department of Geodesy and Topographic Surveying- College of Geomatic Sciences and Surveying Engineering and the president of the Association of Research and Developement in Geospatial Sciences and Surveying Engineering (ARDGIT). She is the coordinator of the ICM Erasmus Program between IAV Hassan II and the University of Liege. She is involved on Terra Mosana ’Euregio Meuse-Rhin” and “Coudenberg SIA3D” projects (UGEOM-Ulg), working on the integration of lasergrammetry and photogrammetry for Semantic segmentation of 3D Points clouds and development of 3D GIS applications for historical sites. Her research interest focuses on 3D Modeling, 3D GIS, Building Information Modeling, BIM-3D GIS integration and the development of models for 3D cadaster in Morocco.


Hicham Hajji

Associate professor at IAV Institut, Morocco

Prof. Hicham Hajji is an associate professor at IAV Institute, Rabat, Morocco. He received a PhD (2005) and MSc (2001) in Computer Sciences from the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon – INSA-Lyon, France. In 1999 he received an Engineer degree of Surveying from IAV Institute. Since 2001, he has occupied several positions such as Lecturer, IT consultant, and Research & Development engineer. He has been involved in more than 15 projects (technical and research projects) ranging from Financial Data Warehousing, GIS to Big Data with international and national institutions such as United Nations UNIDO, USAID , Natixis Bank and European Union. His major research interests lie in Big Data management using scalable approaches and Spatial Data Management. He was recently awarded the Water Innovation Fellowship from USAID and the Azure for Research Awards for ML (Machine Learning) from Microsoft. He is leading a research group working on applications of Spatial Big Data management and Machine Learning on Urban Management, Telco, Water management and Forest management.


Abdelhamid FADIL

Professor of Geomatics & Data Science, Head of Data Engineering Master Degree,
Hassania School for Public Works (EHTP, Morocco)

Prof. Abdelhamid Fadil is an Associate Professor at Hassania School of Public Works (EHTP), Casablanca, Morocco. He had his PhD in Geomatics & Hydrology from Hassan II University of Casablanca in 2013, a Master degree in Geographic information systems from Marne-la-Vallée University (France) in 2006 and Engineer Degree in Geographic Information Sciences from EHTP in 1998. He worked at EHTP as teaching & research engineer from 2001 to 2014 and as professor since 2014. His research areas cover the fields of Geomatics, Geographic information systems, Spatial analysis, Spatial data, Data science, Spatial Big Data and Machine learning. He authored and co-authored several articles and book chapters in the fields of geomatics, geospatial technologies, spatial data and GIS. He was the head of EHTP’s Geographic Information Science engineering degree between 2014 and 2019 and the head of Data Engineering Master degree since 2019. He participated at several professional projects as GIS expert and he is the president of the Moroccan Association of Geomatics (AMAGEO).

Submission guidelines:

Papers should be should be written and submitted electronically in IEEE format using the EasyChair online submission system.

  • All accepted papers must be presented at the conference by one of the authors.
  • Authors are expected to ensure that their final manuscripts are unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication.
  • Paper should be limited to 6 pages, including tables, figures and references.
  • Authors with early stage research can submit description of their work written in English and does not exceed 2 pages (including tables, figures and references).
  • All accepted abstracts will be presented by authors as posters during the conference poster sessions.
  • Only electronic submissions in IEEE format will be considered.
  • Authors of papers presented at the conference will produce a final version of the paper, which takes into account the discussions that were held during the conference.

Publication and Indexing:

Authors of papers presented at the conference will produce a final version of the paper, which takes into account the discussions that were held during the conference. The final versions of the papers accepted for presentation at Morgeo’20 will be published in IEEExplorer and indexed by SCOPUS. Three outstanding papers will be selected to receive the Best Paper Awards. Authors of high-quality papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their work for potential publication in a special issue/section of an international journal.

REGISTRATION

The registration process begins once your paper is accepted. It is mandatory for at least one author of an accepted paper to register in order for the paper to appear in the Proceedings.

  • The registration fee includes conference Kit, coffee breaks, lunches, welcome reception, and closing.
  • All bank charges have to be paid in addition to the registration fees.
  • "Bon de commande" are not accepted.
  • Students must provide concurrently with the Registration Form an official university letter confirming their status as a students and the degree program they are enrolled in.
